Eurozone trade surplus at 24.9 bln euros in April

The eurozone recorded a 24.9-billion-euro (28.01 billion U.S. dollars) surplus in trade in goods with the rest of the world in April 2015, compared to 14.9 billion euros in April 2014, the statistical office of the European Union (EU) Eurostat said on Monday.

On a year-on-year basis, estimated exports and imports rose by 9.0 percent and 3.0 percent respectively in the eurozone in April.

Meanwhile, the 28-nation EU was estimated to have a trade surplus of 12.2 billion euros in April, up from a surplus of 0.8 billion euros in April 2014.

In the January to April period, the eurozone recorded a surplus of 77.1 billion euros, compared with 45.5 billion euros in the same period of 2014, while the EU registered a surplus of 15.1 billion euros, compared with a deficit of 5.0 billion euros in 2014.
